Friday fact: Vitamin A (retinol) plays a fundamental role in reversing the signs of ageing by increasing cell turnover; promoting new collagen formation and exfoliation of dead skin cells.

It is available in several different forms: dietary, OTC and prescription strength.

Prescription strength topical retinoic acid has multiple evidence based benefits including reduction of fine lines, treatment of pigmentation disorders, reduction in breakouts, and improvements in pore clarity.

I recommend using topical retinoic acid under the guidance of a doctor. Side effects include irritation, sun sensitivity and an initial worsening of breakouts.

Retinoid products are not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Book a skin consultation to learn more about the benefits of topical retinoids.
